New delhi: Indian Ministry of External Affairs Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India will take all necessary actions to protect its interests following Bangladesh's review of 101 agreements signed with India under the Awami League administration. 'We have also seen some media reports on this matter, but nothing has been conveyed to us officially. Obviously, India will take all necessary actions to protect its interests,' Jaiswal commented in response to a question regarding Bangladesh's review of these agreements.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Chief Whip of Bangladesh Parliament Nurul Islam Moni announced on September 11 that the government was reviewing 101 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements established with India during the ousted Awami League government of Sheikh Hasina. Moni communicated this during a press briefing at the Media Centre of the Jatiya Sangsad, following the prorogation of the third session of the 13th Parliament.
Moni emphasized that while Bangladesh aims to maintain friendly relations with neighboring India, the country prioritizes its national interests. He highlighted agreements involving Chattogram Port, where it was alleged that the Awami League government allowed vessels from a friendly country to receive preferential treatment over Bangladeshi vessels during unloading.
Moni also referred to a road constructed with a loan from India, noting that Bangladesh was obligated to repay this loan with interest, despite Bangladeshi vehicles being unable to use the road. 'Such agreement was made and it remains implemented. We are trying to come out of such situations,' he added.
