NBR Uncovers Tk 82 Lakh VAT Evasion at Shyamoli’s Shopping Zone BD

Dhaka: The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (West) has uncovered VAT evasion amounting to Tk 82,03,005 during a raid at Shopping Zone BD, a business establishment in the capital's Shyamoli area.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) revealed in a press release that the raid was conducted based on a tip-off and under the instructions of the VAT Commissioner, Dhaka (West). The surprise operation took place at Shopping Zone BD located at 12/1/4, Road-2, Shyamoli, on September 16.

The NBR stated that the establishment engages in selling garments through its own showroom and online platforms. During the raid, evidence of VAT evasion was discovered, leading the authorities to confiscate the CPU and various business documents under Mushak-12.3 for further examination.

The press release indicated that preliminary scrutiny of the seized sales-related data revealed sales totaling Tk 109,373,400. The VAT evasion for these sales was calculated to be Tk 82,03,005.

The NBR mentioned that further scrutiny and verification of the seized documents are in progress. Upon completion, legal proceedings, including filing a case against the establishment, will be initiated as per the law.
