Boalkhali: The Fisheries Department of Boalkhali upazila today seized 4500 meters of illegal nets and 12 fishing rods during a special operation in the Halda River, which is recognized as the only natural fish breeding ground in South Asia. The raid covered the area from Bhandaljuri to Charandwip in Halda River in Boalkhali upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Nayam Hasan, the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer of Boalkhali upazila, confirmed the seizure of 4500 meters of char-enclosed nets and nine fishing rods during the operation. The confiscated nets have been stored at a temporary naval police camp along the Halda River and are scheduled to be destroyed at a later date.
Nayam Hasan emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring and operations to safeguard the natural breeding grounds of carp fish in the Halda River, which also supports dolphins and a diverse range of aquatic life at the Fisheries Heritage site.
