Chattogram: A total of 525 individuals were detained over the past 24 hours as part of a special anti-drug operation covering 11 districts within the Chattogram Range. The Chattogram Range Office publicized this information on Thursday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury reported that these arrests were linked to both anti-drug operations and regular cases. Specifically, 91 individuals were apprehended for drug-related offenses. The overall tally also includes 40 drug dealers arrested in connection with either regular or other cases, totaling 131 arrests connected to the anti-drug initiative.
Among those apprehended for the drug operation, three were identified as drug couriers and 88 as drug users. Additional arrests were made in various categories, including 103 in regular cases, 84 in prior cases, 48 under Section 34 of the Police Act, three under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and 29 under Section 151 and other laws. Furthermore, 143 individuals were apprehended based on arrest warrants, and 24 based on conviction warrants.
Abdul Kuddus Chowdhury also noted that 47 individuals received varying terms of imprisonment from mobile courts during the anti-drug operation, with fines amounting to Taka 3,150 being collected.
In connection with the operation, 24 cases were filed regarding narcotics seizures. This effort led to the recovery of 91,394 yaba tablets, 30,659 kilograms of cannabis, four liters of illicitly distilled liquor, one can of beer, and five bottles of Scuf syrup.
