Dhaka: Prime Minister's Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin today announced a significant increase in the country's gas supply, following directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He expressed optimism that this positive trend would continue, benefiting the national economy and energy security.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin highlighted that the government had taken numerous measures over the past seven months in office, addressing sectors such as energy security, economic recovery, public welfare, education, health, infrastructure, digital services, employment, governance, and foreign relations. These initiatives under the Prime Minister's leadership reflect the government's commitment to public welfare.
Mahdi Amin stated that the Prime Minister had assured business leaders and the media that the gas crisis would be resolved swiftly. Immediate actions have been initiated to operationalize industries and boost the economy. He further mentioned that Moody's had revised Bangladesh's sovereign outlook to stable, indicating a favorable environment for foreign investment and economic growth.
The government's achievements during the last seven months, as noted by Mahdi Amin, include essential administrative reforms, enhancing public services, and strengthening Bangladesh's diplomatic stance. He emphasized that these efforts showcase the government's dedication to transforming Bangladesh into a self-reliant, democratic state, overcoming challenges from previous administrations.
Mahdi Amin also reported a positive direction in inflation, with a decrease in food prices and better supply of essential goods. He noted the comparatively low diesel prices in Bangladesh, thanks to government subsidies. Key focus areas include youth empowerment, education, IT innovation, and women's advancement, among others.
In the energy sector, plans to drill new gas wells, expand LNG capacities, and secure international financing for refinery expansions underscore the government's long-term energy security strategy. Measures to improve transparency in administration, ensure property rights, and recognize educational achievements further demonstrate the government's reform agenda.
Mahdi highlighted various initiatives to enhance public infrastructure, including modernizing meat-processing facilities, expanding solar power, and promoting sustainable industrial practices. He discussed advancements in healthcare, such as constructing specialized hospitals and launching a national e-health platform. Additionally, public health campaigns like vaccination drives and anti-dengue measures are ongoing.
Transport and traffic management improvements include studies for electric rail traction, expressway expansions, and modernized toll systems. Efforts to improve legal and governance structures, streamline citizen services, and enhance international trade relations are also underway.
