Dhaka: The newly formed Special Response Battalion (SRB), a specialised unit under Bangladesh Police, officially commenced its operations today following the publication of the Special Response Battalion (SRB) Act, 2026 in the government gazette.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Director General of SRB, Additional IGP Md. Ahsan Habib Palash, announced that the process of developing a new logo, flag, monogram, and uniform for the force is already underway. These changes are expected to be implemented soon upon receiving government approval. The announcement was made during his address to members of the newly established force at its headquarters.
Md. Ahsan Habib Palash engaged with the headquarters personnel in person and connected with all battalions across the country via video conferencing. During his address, he formally announced the commencement of SRB's journey and urged all members to perform their operational duties with utmost transparency and accountability, adhering to the newly enacted legislation.
He emphasized the importance of integrity, honesty, dedication, and patriotism among the members to ensure public safety and uphold the rule of law, thereby gaining the public's trust. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity for the force to execute its responsibilities professionally and in strict accordance with the law.
A special doa and munajat were conducted after Asr prayers, seeking the welfare and success of the newly formed force and its ongoing service to the nation. The establishment of the SRB under Bangladesh Police marks the transition from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), following the passage of the SRB Bill by Parliament on September 10.
