Chattogram: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) has uncovered a consignment of imported used motor parts and engines from Japan, which allegedly presents a significant risk of revenue evasion. The discovery was made following a tip-off that prompted the CIID and Customs House, Inland Container Depot (ICD), to secure the consignment on September 1 after reviewing Bill of Entry (B/E) No. C-9766, dated July 30, 2026.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the importer, Maitree Automobile, is located at Arakan Road in Chandgaon, Chattogram, while JP Express Ltd., based at K-197, Khilkhet, Namapara, Dhaka, serves as the clearing and forwarding (C and F) agent. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a press release today, providing these details.
On September 15, the authorities initiated measures to keep the consignment under force keep-down for a thorough physical examination. Over a two-day inspection period, customs officials discovered 19 used engines, a variety of used motor parts, and two disassembled vehicles within the consignment.
The examination report is currently being prepared, and the process of taking legal action in accordance with the law is underway, as stated in the release. The NBR emphasized that the consignment poses a substantial risk of revenue evasion, and strict legal action is expected under the overall direction of the NBR chairman and with the cooperation of the director general of Customs Intelligence.
