Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave in-principle approval for the import of an additional 6.95 lakh tonnes of fuel oil to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel and strengthen the country's energy security during the September-December period of 2026. The approval was given at the 29th CCEA meeting held at the Cabinet Division in the city with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, under the proposal, 6,95,000 tonnes of gas oil and jet fuel will be imported through the established Government-to-Government (G2G) mechanism. The additional quantity represents a 10 percent increase over the original allocation for the 2026 calendar year, according to the proposal.
The supplementary import is aimed at meeting increased demand for fuel in the transport, industrial, and aviation sectors and maintaining an adequate supply buffer during the final four months of the year.
