Bagerhat: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has stated that drug dealers, terrorists, and extortionists must be brought to justice regardless of their political affiliation. "The government is working based on truth and justice. If ordinary people point out our mistakes, we will be able to correct ourselves further," he remarked while addressing a views exchange meeting on law and order and development issues organized by the district administration at the conference room of the Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner's office as the chief guest this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Golam Md Baten and attended by lawmakers Mashiur Rahman and Abdul Alim, reserved women's seat MP Subarna Shikder, former secretary Dr Md Faridul Islam, District Council Administrator Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Khulna Range DIG Mizanur Rahman, Police Superintendent Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar, and District Bar Association President Wahiduzzaman Dipu as special guests.
The minister highlighted the government's efforts to reduce extravagance and unnecessary expenditure in government activities, noting a significant reduction in the Prime Minister's motorcade from 28 vehicles to just four. He also mentioned the discontinuation of the previous allocation of Taka 35 crore for the Prime Minister's hospitality. Lunch expenses, previously around Taka 3,500 per person, have been curtailed to Taka 100 for the Prime Minister and 40 officials and employees.
Addressing concerns over drug trafficking and the entry of illegal goods through the border, the Minister emphasized the government's firm stance on protecting young people from the adverse effects of drugs. He affirmed the government's resolve to use all its resources to prevent misleading the younger generation.
On the matter of social media and cybercrime, Asaduzzaman mentioned that the government is closely monitoring crimes committed on platforms like Facebook. Rather than shutting down social media, the focus is on implementing effective legal measures to control such crimes.
Expressing satisfaction with the law and order situation in Bagerhat, the minister urged law enforcement agencies and administration officials to take a more responsible role in ensuring security, rights of the people, and good governance.
