Barishal: State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmmed Sohel Manzur today announced that government land illegally occupied or distributed during the previous fascist regime would be recovered through legal measures and returned to the ministry's control.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister emphasized that the fascist government engaged in extreme activities of terrorism, extortion, land grabbing, and corruption. He made these remarks while addressing journalists after inspecting the Rupatali Housing area under the Barishal City Corporation. Manzur clarified that no government property in Barishal has been occupied by individuals affiliated with the BNP.
The Ministry of Housing and Public Works is reportedly working on several projects aimed at constructing residential buildings for low- and middle-income individuals across the country. Similar initiatives are planned for Barishal. Manzur noted that various pieces of ministry-owned land had been distributed in different ways during the previous government's tenure and confirmed that these lands would be reclaimed legally.
Manzur also recalled his personal connection to the Rupatali area, mentioning that his father, Nurul Islam Manzur, had established his first business there. He accused the fascist government of occupying that land, describing it as characteristic of their regime.
Accompanying the state minister during his visit were Barishal Zilla Parishad Administrator Akon Kuddusur Rahman, Barishal City BNP Member Secretary Zia Uddin Shikder, Joint Convener Afroza Khanom Nasrin, and other BNP leaders and activists.
