Dhaka: Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today highlighted the impact of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's cleanliness and dengue-awareness campaign, describing it as a powerful motivator for lifelong cleanliness.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the vice-chancellor made these remarks during the inauguration of a cleanliness drive organized by the JU unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD). The event, which took place at 5:00 pm in front of the university's New Administrative Building, is part of a larger initiative by the Chhatra Dal to prevent dengue, control the spread of Aedes mosquitoes, and maintain a clean campus environment.
Prof Kamrul Ahsan emphasized the importance of cleanliness at JU, noting that the campus serves as a sanctuary for both nature and wildlife. He stressed the need for cleaning activities to consider the welfare of all species coexisting on the campus. "The university has experts in mosquitoes, insects, and environmental science who can contribute to making this initiative more effective," he said, pledging the administration's support to the Chhatra Dal's efforts.
JU Chhatra Dal Convener Jahir Uddin Babar stated that the program aligns with the Prime Minister's "Cleanliness and Dengue Prevention Awareness 2026" campaign. He offered the organization's assistance to the university administration in addressing any manpower shortages for cleanliness and dengue prevention efforts, with Chhatra Dal members ready to contribute through voluntary work.
The event saw participation from JU JCD Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Anik and other leaders and activists, who engaged in cleaning activities and distributed dengue prevention leaflets among students. Additionally, JU JCD submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor during the program.
