Khulna: Three more people succumbed to dengue fever in the Khulna division in the last 24 hours, with 290 new patients hospitalized, bringing the total number of dengue-related deaths in the region this year to 33.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khulna Divisional Health Director Dr. Sheikh Md Mosharraf Hossain reported that of the 290 new cases, 217 patients were admitted to government hospitals, while 73 sought treatment at private facilities. This surge raises the cumulative number of dengue cases in the division since January 1 to 9,399.
Out of the total cases, 8,081 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged, whereas 1,060 remain under medical care in various hospitals. Additionally, 225 patients have been transferred to other healthcare centers for advanced treatment options.
In response to the escalating dengue situation, the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has ramped up its mosquito-control initiatives. Since September 1, KCC has deployed 155 additional personnel dedicated to eradicating mosquito larvae. Five workers are assigned to each ward, tasked with applying larvicides in drains, stagnant water bodies, and other mosquito breeding sites.
Furthermore, the Waste Management Department of KCC is actively conducting fogging operations across all 31 wards to exterminate adult mosquitoes and is using light diesel oil, commonly referred to as black oil, in WASA manholes. In compliance with directives from the Prime Minister, KCC has also initiated a cleanliness drive every Saturday and plans to intensify these efforts in the coming week.
