Dhaka: Bangladesh allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued his impressive bowling performance in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) but his side Guyana Amazon Warriors tasted a six-wicket defeat to Barbados Tridents after a batting collapse at Bridgetown. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Miraz scored 18, the third-best score for his side before he took 2-25 with the bowling. The Bangladesh spinner has taken nine wickets in three matches so far in the tournament. It was Guyana's second defeat in the group phase although it didn't prevent them from topping the point table. The top-ranked Guyana side had earlier suffered their first loss of the tournament against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. However, Guyana's will take on Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the first Qualifier on September 18, for a direct place in the final. Sent in to bat after losing the toss, Guyana were reduced to 15 for three inside the third over. Miraz joined Glenn Phillips in an attempt to steady the innings, but their partnership added only 23 runs before Phillips was dismissed for 24 - the highest individual score of Guyana's innings. Miraz contributed 18 runs from 24 balls, including one four and one six, finishing as the team's third-highest scorer. Lower-order batters Romario Shepherd and Imran Tahir added 31 runs for the final wicket partnership, but Guyana were eventually bowled out for just 99 in 18.1 overs. AM Ghazanfar and Johan Layne claimed three wickets each for Barbados. Defending a modest total, Miraz gave Guyana an early breakthrough by removing Quinton de Kock in the final over of the powerplay, breaking his off-stump with his off-spin before taking out Shadrack Descarte as his second victim, as the batter was removed for 32 in the 12th over. However, Barbados had already gained control of the chase by then. Brandon King remained unbeaten on 44 to guide his team home as Barbados reached 100 for four in 14.5 overs.
