Dhaka: The Ministry of Commerce has declared the post of president of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) vacant based on a report from Credit Information Bureau (CIB) of the Bangladesh Bank. The decision was communicated in an official letter sent to REHAB's senior vice president by the Trade Organisation-2 branch of the ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the letter, which was signed by Chowdhury Samia Yasmin, deputy secretary of the ministry, indicated that Md Ali Afzal, REHAB president, has been identified as a loan defaulter. This identification arises from his role as a director of a defaulting institution, as reported by the Bangladesh Bank CIB.
The letter further stated that Md Ali Afzal's position as president is declared vacant under Section 23(1)(b) of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022. In view of this action, the ministry has also disseminated copies of their decision to pertinent offices. These include the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC), the administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), and the REHAB office secretary, all of whom have been informed for necessary action.
