Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has announced that it will deliver its judgment tomorrow in a high-profile case involving crimes against humanity. The case, which has drawn significant attention, involves seven individuals, including Awami League General Secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader, who are accused of participating in killings during the July uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the three-member tribunal, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, issued a short order this morning to set the judgment date. The tribunal had previously placed the case on CAV, a legal term signifying that the court awaits judgment, after concluding arguments on August 17. During the proceedings, the prosecution sought the maximum punishment for the accused and requested the confiscation of their properties.
The other six accused are Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and its General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, as well as the President and General Secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, Saddam Hossain and Wali Asif Inan, respectively.
The second tribunal had earlier issued arrest warrants for these individuals on December 18, 2025, after formally accepting the charges filed against them. The upcoming judgment marks a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to address crimes against humanity associated with the July uprising.
