Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved the acquisition of nine liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes to be delivered in 2026. This decision was made during the committee's 44th meeting of the year, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, which focused on three proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
According to United News of Bangladesh, five of the nine LNG cargoes will be procured through the Request for Quotation (International) process, as outlined by the Public Procurement Rules 2025. TotalEnergies Gas and Power Ltd of the UK has been selected to supply the 52nd cargo of the year at a rate of $28.95 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). Vital Asia Pte Ltd of Singapore will provide the 56th cargo at $29.795 per MMBtu.
The scheduled delivery for these five cargoes is set for October, with specific dates allocated for each: October 9-10 for the 52nd cargo, October 12-13 for the 53rd, October 14-15 for the 54th, October 15-16 for the 55th, and October 27-28 for the 56th cargo.
The committee also endorsed the direct purchase of two LNG cargoes from D'ARAB Inc. of the United States, priced at $17 per MMBtu. Additionally, another proposal gained approval for the direct procurement of two more LNG cargoes from Mind Mingle LLC, also based in the United States, at a rate of $19 per MMBtu.
