AI, Robotics, Technical Education Integrated into Textbooks for Grades 6-10: Mahdi

Dhaka: Prime Minister's Education and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Mahdi Amin has announced a transformative initiative aimed at revolutionizing the country's education system by integrating modern technology subjects into the curriculum for grades six to ten. This move is part of a broader strategy to produce world-class skilled human resources and prepare a technology-driven future generation. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin made these remarks at the plenary session of the 'Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026', organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology at Novo Theatre in Dhaka. He emphasized that starting from the next academic year, subjects such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, machine learning, and cybersecurity will receive special emphasis in school textbooks. Alongside, technical education will be institutionally integrated into mainstream education and made compulsory for all students. Mahdi, who also serves as the spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Off ice, highlighted the government's commitment to prioritizing STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education across all educational levels, from secondary to tertiary. He explained that reforms are underway to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, thereby enhancing the quality of education from primary to higher education. In addition to these changes, Mahdi announced the introduction of two new subjects, 'Sports' and 'Culture', at the primary level in the fourth grade, starting next academic year. Furthermore, a new initiative titled 'Learning with Happiness' will be introduced in the sixth grade to help students acquire essential interpersonal and transferable skills needed for real-life scenarios. The adviser also stressed the importance of aligning higher education with real-world demands. Efforts are being made to integrate technical and vocational education into the curricula of approximately 2,500 institutions affiliated with the National Universit y. He praised the international caliber of Bangladeshi youth and expressed the government's intention to transform potential 'brain drain' into 'brain circulation'. To achieve this, the government plans to establish a robust industry-academia ecosystem by leveraging endowment funds, CSR funds, and the expertise of Bangladeshi alumni. This initiative will also involve Bangladeshi experts working abroad, incorporating their experience into the nation's curriculum and industrial development through special fellowships. The seminar, themed 'STEM for a Future-Ready Bangladesh: Building the Backbone of the Innovative Economy', was moderated by Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Md Anwar Hossain. The discussion featured notable participants, including National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah, UNESCO Dhaka Office Chief of Education S Kyung Ko, and IUB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Tamim.
