Tazumuddin: Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, today alleged that the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned, "brought disaster" to Bangladesh and stole the country's reserves, transferring them to the Philippines. "The people of this country never knew that there was a torture cell called 'Aynaghar'," he stated, claiming that the Awami mafia group established the facility to torture innocent people.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Speaker's remarks were made as he served as the chief guest at an exchange of views with professionals and people from various sectors. The event was organised by the Tazumuddin Upazila BNP at the Upazila Parishad auditorium around 5:30pm. He further mentioned that Jamaat leader Ahmed Bin Quasem was detained and tortured for eight years, while many others, including Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, suffered what he termed as judicial killings.
The Speaker criticized the ousted Awami League government for granting India significant advantages while failing to prevent the killing of Bangladeshis along the border. He assured the audience that Tazumuddin upazila would be transformed into a municipality and promised various development projects, including improvements to roads and highways.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmad also reflected on his military career, mentioning that he was the first person from Lalmohan to join the army and that Major Ziaur Rahman (Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman) served as his instructor. He contrasted his own conduct with that of current MPs, claiming he never sought to accumulate wealth, whereas many MPs now amass thousands of crores of taka. He called on the people to stay committed to preserving Bangladesh's reputation.
The programme was moderated by Tazumuddin Upazila BNP General Secretary Omar Asad Rintu, with President Golam Mostafa Mintu presiding. Local BNP leaders, activists, and members of affiliated organisations were also in attendance.
