Chattogram: Chattogram metropolitan BNP general secretary Nazimur Rahman today emphasized that Kaptai Lake is not merely a water reservoir but a national treasure intricately linked to the environment, economy, and the livelihoods of the residents of the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT). "So, we won't accept any actions or plans that threaten the interests, security, and existence of Kaptai Lake," Nazim remarked at a human chain event where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the human chain was organized by the Greater Chattogram Forum and the Chattogram WASA Consumer Coordination Forum, staged in front of the Chattogram Press Club. The protest was against suspected conspiracies concerning Kaptai Lake. Nazim claimed that a vested group is plotting to place the government in a difficult situation regarding the lake.
Nazim vehemently opposed any entities formulating plans detrimental to the national interest concerning Kaptai Lake. He called for a thorough investigation into the incident where water was allegedly released before reaching a critical level, disrupting hydroelectric power generation and affecting the operations of Chattogram WASA.
The human chain event was presided over by Greater Chattogram Forum Secretary General Hasan Mukul and moderated by Jahirul Islam and Sajjad Khan. Among those who addressed the human chain were Chattogram Press Club President Jahidul Karim Kochi, Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Joint Conveners Shawkat Azam Khaja and Manjur Rahman Chowdhury, Chattogram Press Club joint secretary Meah Mohammad Arif, and Engineer Sakhawat Hossain.
