Naogaon: RAB-5 today arrested a man in Naogaon's Manda upazila on charges of hacking into servers, illegally collecting sensitive personal data, and selling the information for financial gain. The arrested man was identified as Abdus Salam Sarkar, 26, who worked temporarily at the Bangladesh Election Office between 2018 and 2022, RAB sources said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, investigators alleged that Sarkar exploited his previous access and used various WhatsApp accounts and ID credentials to obtain and supply sensitive information. This included National Identity (NID) data, mobile SIM registration details, bKash and Nagad registration information, mobile phone locations, call detail records (CDRs), and SMS lists. Sarkar allegedly hacked into various servers and illegally accessed the National Identity Registration and Crime Data Management System (CDMS) databases to collect information.
Acting on a complaint, RAB personnel conducted a raid at Sarkar Computer and Online Point in Prasadpur village this afternoon and arrested him. During preliminary interrogation, Sarkar allegedly admitted to supplying sensitive information through WhatsApp in exchange for money. A search of his mobile phone also revealed multiple call detail records and the last known locations of several mobile numbers, RAB said.
