Man Sentenced to Death for Wife’s Dowry Murder in Keraniganj

Dhaka: A court here today convicted and sentenced Dulal Hossain to death in a case filed over the killing of his wife, Sharmin, by setting her on fire over dowry in Keraniganj. Judge Md Moshiur Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment, also fining Dulal Taka two lakh. The court also acquitted Harun, Morsheda, Sumaia, and Raju of the charges as they were found not guilty.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents reveal that Dulal and Sharmin got married in 2001 and had one daughter. Dulal used to torture Sharmin regularly for dowry. On the morning of September 17, 2016, he again tortured Sharmin and left the house. Dulal returned a little later and set Sharmin on fire by pouring kerosene on her. Neighbours rushed her to Mitford Hospital and later shifted her to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on September 30, 2016.

Sharmin's mother, Momena Khatun, filed the case with Keraniganj Model Police Station.
