Dhaka: 'Amra BNP Poribar', a humanitarian initiative of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has provided new homes to families in need, following tragedies in Feni and Cumilla. Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the acting secretary general of BNP and chief adviser of 'Amra BNP Poribar', presented the keys on behalf of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman at events held in Bhorbazar, Farhadnagar Union of Feni Sadar upazila, and Sonapur village, Batisha Union of Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla.
According to United News of Bangladesh, a new home was given to the family of Md Harunur Rashid, a Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leader killed in police firing during a procession in Feni town on December 4, 2013. The ceremony was attended by members of 'Amra BNP Poribar', including adviser Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul, member secretary Agriculturist Mokshedul Momin Mithun, and various BNP leaders. The group also visited Rashid's grave to offer prayers. It was noted that in 2017, the organization had also supported the wedding of Harun's eldest daughter.
In Cumilla, the initiative provided new homes to five families in Sonapur village, whose properties were destroyed in an arson attack on April 4, 2026. BNP leaders claim the attack was politically motivated, as the families had voted for BNP's 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol in the national election. The plight of these families came to light when a video circulated on social media, prompting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman to order assistance for them.
Under Rahman's directive, 'Amra BNP Poribar' facilitated the construction of new houses for these affected families. The handover ceremony was attended by local BNP figures, including Chauddagram upazila BNP president Md Kamrul Huda, Comilla South District BNP general secretary Ashiqur Rahman Mahmud Wasim, senior vice-president Amiruzzaman Amir, Comilla Metropolitan BNP president Utbatul Bari Abu, and Chauddagram upazila BNP general secretary Engineer Shah Alam.
