Dhaka: A two-day Nazrul Dance Festival 2026, organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to portray the spirit and philosophy of Kazi Nazrul Islam through the rhythm of dance, was inaugurated here today. Culture Secretary Yasmin Begum presided over the inaugural ceremony, highlighting Nazrul's dedication to standing beside the helpless and oppressed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Yasmin Begum expressed that Nazrul rejuvenated the entire society, and the festival aims to remember him through various forms of art. Academy Director General poet Rezauddin Stalin emphasized Nazrul's significant place in the tradition of classical music and stated that the festival features dance performances based on Nazrul Sangeet.
He further elaborated on how love and separation among the people of Bengal are expressed through rhythm and dance, noting that rhythm exists in every phase of life. Stalin remarked that dance influences lives and expands the world of imagination, and through this festival, they aim to enjoy that essence.
Ekushey Padak-winning dancer and dance researcher Amanul Haque, in his keynote speech, stated that the festival portrays Nazrul's themes of humanity and rebellion through dance. He emphasized the importance of embracing Nazrul's thoughts and consciousness and expressing them through dance.
The event was also addressed by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Md Harun-or-Rashid as a special guest, with various dance groups and performers from across the country participating in the festival.
