Dhaka: BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday expressed hope that violence against women, including rape, child abuse, and all forms of wrongdoing, would be eliminated from society. "We will wipe out rape, violence against women, child abuse, and all kinds of wrongdoing from this society," he stated at a rally organized in Nayapaltan to mark the 48th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal. Rizvi emphasized the role of the government, led by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, in ensuring women's dignity, rights, and legal protections.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rizvi highlighted the importance of education and mental self-reliance in empowering women. He noted the government's efforts to foster mental self-reliance among women and pointed out that incidents involving violence against women, such as those experienced by individuals like Nusrat, Rupa, Khadija, Tonu, and Mitu, are no longer occurring. "Today, Nusrat and Rupa are not being killed. Today, Khadija, Tanu, and Mitu are not being killed or subjected to abuse," he remarked.
Rizvi described these developments as social progress, attributing this change to the effective governance and initiatives of the BNP. He emphasized education as a crucial tool for women's empowerment and asserted that Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal leaders are capable and competent in state governance.
He also stated that under BNP's rule, every party worker is part of the government, not just those in official positions. Rizvi highlighted the freedom of movement and expression that people, particularly women, now enjoy, recalling the challenges faced by Mohila Dal leaders under previous administrations.
Rizvi urged Mohila Dal leaders and activists to actively communicate the government's programs, especially those benefitting women, to the public. He emphasized the significance of government measures aimed at women's welfare, such as the abolition of tuition fees for girls' education up to the intermediate level, a policy initiated by Prime Minister's mother, Begum Khaleda Zia. Additionally, he mentioned the proposal by Khaleda Zia's eldest son to extend free education up to degree and honors levels for girls.
The initiatives were described as public welfare measures designed to empower women through education and foster financial independence. Rizvi called upon the Mohila Dal members to disseminate information about these initiatives to the masses, underscoring their responsibility as part of both the party and the government. The rally concluded with Rizvi inaugurating the celebrations for the 48th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.
