Dhaka: A court here today placed Ajit Ghosh Kanai, a leader of the city's Kotwali thana Awami League (AL), whose activities are banned, on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded for a seven-day remand in the case. Police arrested Ajit from the Goal Nagar area in the old part of the capital on September 11.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents indicate that around 100-150 Awami League and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League activists brought out a rally in the lower court area on July 26. They allegedly gathered there to hatch a conspiracy to carry out sabotage. Police later filed the case with Kotwali Police Station.
