Dhaka: Six more people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to Thursday morning, marking the second-highest daily death toll from the mosquito-borne disease this year. With these latest fatalities, the number of dengue-related deaths in the country has increased to 139 this year.
According to United News of Bangladesh, two of the new deaths were reported in the Khulna division, while one death each was recorded in the Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, and Rajshahi divisions. The data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reveals that of the deaths recorded this year, 65.7 percent were men, and 34.3 percent were women.
Earlier on Tuesday, Bangladesh recorded its highest number of dengue deaths in a single day this year, with nine individuals succumbing to the disease. In the latest 24-hour period, 1,492 more dengue patients were admitted to hospitals, bringing the total number of cases this year to 48,430. Out of these, 44,857 patients have recovered and been discharged, according to the DGHS.
