Dhaka: Seven more children have died with symptoms of measles across the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from both confirmed measles and suspected measles symptoms to 1,009 since March 15. The tragic update comes as health authorities continue to grapple with the outbreak, which has spread alarmingly since its onset earlier this year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that out of the total deaths, 909 have been attributed to suspected measles cases. The latest figures indicate that there were no new deaths from confirmed measles cases in the last 24 hours. The confirmed measles death toll remains at 100, from March 15 to September 10.
The DGHS press release also highlighted that 1,165 new suspected measles cases were reported in the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of suspected cases to 168,745 from March 15 to September 10. Additionally, 29 new confirmed measles cases have been recorded, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 19,933 during the same period.
Since March 15, hospitals have admitted a total of 148,505 patients with suspected measles, with 142,888 of these patients having been discharged after receiving treatment. The ongoing health crisis underscores the need for enhanced efforts to control the spread of measles and provide adequate care for affected individuals.
