Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan emphasized the critical role of objectivity in journalism during a speech at the 31st founding anniversary of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). He underscored the challenging nature of journalism, comparing it to the responsibilities of politicians, and suggesting that maintaining neutrality is crucial for journalists to perform their duties effectively.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr. Moyeen Khan expressed his belief that objectivity is the simplest way for journalists to navigate their demanding profession. He noted that writing impartially would leave no room for controversy, regardless of whether the reporting is in favor or against any party. The minister highlighted the role of journalists as the fourth estate and urged them to acknowledge their significance by upholding objectivity in their reporting.
Dr. Moyeen Khan also commended the Dhaka Reporters Unity for its dedication to responsible journalism. He recognized the DRU as a notable institution that has consistently adhered to its journalistic responsibilities. The minister called on DRU members to maintain their integrity and principles, which have garnered respect from the Bangladeshi public over the years.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh (Saleh Shibly), National Editors' Council President and Jaijaidin Editor Shafik Rehman, Press Institute Bangladesh Director General Faruque Wasif, DRU President Abu Saleh Akon, and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel.
