Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to investigate allegations of wasting and misappropriating public funds through corruption and irregularities in the purchase of walkie-talkies by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department Md Aktarul Islam disclosed the information at a regular media briefing at the ACC headquarters today. He stated that the commission has already appointed investigation officers and a supervising officer to conduct the inquiry into the allegations.
The complaint alleges that a local company was awarded the contract to supply the walkie-talkies despite lacking the required experience, allegedly using a certificate from a Chinese firm. It also claims that the walkie-talkies were purchased at prices several times higher than those paid by other government agencies, resulting in the wastage of public money. Furthermore, the complaint suggests that DNCC officials, despite being government employees, engaged in the activities with the dishonest intention of gaining personal benefits.
The ACC noted that it had conducted an enforcement operation on August 17, 2025, following allegations of misappropriation of public funds through irregularities and corruption in the purchase of walkie-talkies by the DNCC. Based on information obtained during the operation and subsequent allegations, the commission has now decided to launch a formal investigation.
The investigation will focus on examining irregularities in the procurement process, the prices of the walkie-talkies, the eligibility of the supplier, and the roles of those concerned.
