Dhaka: The Cute-BSPA Sports Carnival concluded today with an engaging prize-giving ceremony, marking the event as a significant highlight for the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA). More than 100 members participated in 12 disciplines across eight events, demonstrating their athletic prowess and camaraderie.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Medul Hasan emerged as the standout performer, winning the prestigious Md. Abdul Mannan Ladu Trophy as Sportsman of the Year. Hasan’s exceptional performance included becoming the champion in swimming and securing the carrom doubles title alongside Md. Zahirul Islam. He also achieved runner-up positions in carrom singles and the 100-meter sprint, and finished third in archery.
Manzur Elahi Shanto was recognized as the first runner-up, excelling in shooting and shot put while also securing third place in carrom singles. Meanwhile, Zahid Munir earned the second runner-up title by clinching victories in the Call Bridge and Twenty-Nine events, the latter
in partnership with Sudipta Ahmad Ananda. Munir also finished third in chess, showcasing his diverse talents.
The prize distribution was graced by the presence of State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque, who attended as the chief guest. He emphasized the importance of sports for journalists, encouraging the carnival’s expansion to include more participants nationwide. Additionally, Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, Chairman of the sponsoring organization Mousumi Industries Ltd. (Cute) and president of World Archery Asia, attended as the special guest.
In his address, State Minister Md. Aminul Haque expressed gratitude to the BSPA for organizing the event and outlined the government’s commitment to prioritizing sports with medal-winning potential. He highlighted plans for long-term training and funding to elevate the country’s sporting achievements, particularly in light of the upcoming Asian Games.
