Dhaka: An initiative has been taken to introduce an e-Parliament system aimed at establishing a paperless, modern, and technology-driven Bangladesh Parliament. The initiative was discussed when Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Library Committee of the 13th Parliament Barrister Kaysar Kamal, along with committee members Nayab Yusuf Ahmed and ABM Mosharraf Hossain, paid a courtesy call on Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Sunday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the meeting emphasized implementing the e-Parliament system to make parliamentary activities faster and more technology-oriented. The proposed system will feature both Bangla and English versions, facilitating the management, preservation, and exchange of parliamentary documents and information efficiently.
The Speaker directed the formation of a committee led by the Deputy Speaker to oversee the e-Parliament system's implementation. This committee will assess the system's structure, required technological infrastructure, and other related issues before proceeding with necessary steps.
A presentation on the e-Parliament system is scheduled towards the end of September, detailing its operational procedures, technological capabilities, and implementation plan. The implementation of the e-Parliament system is seen as a significant milestone for the government, promising digital management of parliamentary activities and documents, thus reducing paper use and saving time and administrative costs.
The system is expected to enhance the speed, efficiency, and coordination of parliamentary activities. Additionally, it was decided to engage with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), donor countries, and development agencies for technical and other support necessary for the project's implementation.
The e-Parliament initiative represents a crucial step towards establishing a paperless and technology-driven Parliament. Relevant officials from the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
