Dhaka: Three children have tragically died with measles symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through a press release today. This incident adds to the growing concern about the measles outbreak that has been ongoing since March 15.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the recent fatalities increase the overall count of deaths due to confirmed measles and measles symptoms to 994 from March 15 to September 6. The same period saw a significant number of suspected measles cases, with 1,043 new reports in the last 24 hours alone, bringing the total to 164,148 suspected cases.
The press release also highlighted that 55 new cases of confirmed measles were identified in the past 24 hours, resulting in a total of 19,696 confirmed cases since the outbreak began. Hospitals have admitted 144,168 individuals suspected of having measles, with 138,772 of them recovering and being discharged.
The DGHS confirmed that three children died with suspected measles in the past 24 hours, contributing to a total of 894 deaths of children with suspected measles since March 15. However, there were no deaths reported from confirmed measles in the last 24 hours. Since the outbreak, 100 children have died of confirmed measles.
