Dhaka: Ten additional parliamentary standing committees on various ministries were formed in the Jatiya Sangsad today, alongside the reconstitution of an existing committee. This development brings the total number of committees formed in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad to 36.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni presented separate proposals for the formation and reconstitution of the committees to the House at the conclusion of Sunday's session. These proposals were approved through voice votes by the members present.
Currently, the 13th Jatiya Sangsad consists of 50 parliamentary committees, including 39 ministry-related standing committees and 11 committees related to Parliament itself. With the formation of 10 additional committees today, the total number of constituted committees now stands at 36, which includes 30 ministry-related standing committees.
The parliamentary committee on the agriculture ministry was restructured, appointing Md. Shahadat Hossain (Laxmipur-1) as its new chairman. Among the newly formed committees are the parliamentary standing committee on disaster management and relief ministry, under the leadership of Munshi Rafiqul Alam (Feni-1), and the committee on local government, rural development, and cooperatives ministry, led by AKM Selim Reza Habib (Pabna-2).
The parliamentary committee on Labour and Employment Ministry is now headed by Md. Shamsur Rahman Simul Biswas (Pabna-5), while Abdus Salam Pintu (Tangail-2) leads the committee on food ministry. Other committees include youth and sports ministry chaired by Md Abul Khair Bhuiyan (Laxmipur-2) and shipping ministry chaired by Zainul Abdin Farroque (Naokhali-2).
Additionally, the committees on fisheries and livestock ministry, primary and mass education ministry, cultural affairs ministry, and Chittagong Hill Tracts Ministry are now led by Khairul Kabir Khokon (Narsingdi-1), Mahmuda Habib (Women Seat-13), Md. Barkat Ullah Bulu (Naokhali-3), and Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan (Khagrachhari), respectively.
