Dhaka: Emphasising the use of information technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to build a world-class education system, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today sought Google's cooperation in modernising the country's education system, enhancing teachers' skills and developing educational contents. He sought the cooperation when a high-level delegation led by Kyle Gardner, Regional Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google, paid a courtesy call on him at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here, said a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting, the education minister stated that the current government has given the highest priority to education. He mentioned that efforts are underway to bring about a fundamental transformation in the education system to align with global demand, thereby presenting an opportunity for Google to cooperate.
Milon emphasized the necessity of equipping teachers with skills in technology and AI to ensure their effective use in education. To this end, the government has introduced modern initiatives like 'One Teacher, One Tab' and multimedia classrooms, where Google can play a significant role.
The Google delegation appreciated the initiatives taken by the Bangladesh government to expand education and adopt technology-friendly policies. They were briefed on the government's strategic priorities and future plans in the education sector and highlighted the activities and global experience of 'Google for Education'.
During the meeting, discussions were held on potential joint efforts in Bangladesh's education sector, including teacher training, the Gemini Academy, and the use of Chromebooks. Present at the meeting were Tim Paolini, Head of Special Projects for the Asia-Pacific region of Google for Education, and Shamshur Rahman Khan, Additional Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
