Dhaka: Food Minister Afroza Khanam today underscored the critical need for maintaining safe food storage and adhering to stringent food quality standards to ensure food security for the population. She highlighted the importance of advance planning and sufficient reserves to guarantee a steady food supply during crises or disasters.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister conveyed these remarks during a meeting with officials at the Directorate of Food's conference room. The meeting was chaired by Director General Md. Jasim Uddin Khan, with Food Secretary Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana and other officials in attendance.
Addressing the participants, the Food Minister stressed the necessity of sincere cooperation from all staff to achieve the government's targets. She emphasized the importance of everyone fulfilling their responsibilities, as collective effort is essential to reach the desired outcomes.
Afroza Khanam warned of strict consequences for any irregularities, stating that the institution's reputation should not be compromised by the actions of a few. She also noted the existence of several long-standing tasks that remain unfinished and called for immediate action to address the poor state of food warehouses and infrastructure across the country.
The minister particularly pointed out the hazardous condition of the Saturia food warehouse in Manikganj, urging quick intervention to prevent potential accidents. She also emphasized the importance of regular evaluations of Food Inspectors, OCs of LSDCs, and other field-level officials to encourage and enhance their work quality.
Afroza Khanam concluded by advocating for thorough investigations and data verification in response to any complaints against officials, rather than making unilateral decisions.
