Mirpur: The eighth China Ambassador Cup Wushu Championship commenced today at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, featuring 279 athletes representing 19 clubs. Former Air Vice-Marshal and Member of Parliament Altaf Hossain Choudhury officially inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Altaf Hossain Choudhury emphasized the significant role sports play in maintaining the health of young people and assisting them in building a better society during his speech at the opening ceremony. The event is seen as a prominent platform for nurturing and showcasing young Wushu talents.
Bangladesh Wushu Federation (BWF) General Secretary Didar Hasan Dipu addressed the gathering by highlighting the federation's long-term strategy aimed at securing medals in Wushu at the Asian level. As part of their strategic initiatives, the BWF is planning to organize the South Asian Junior Wushu Championship, which will be pivotal in developing young athletes and preparing them for international competitions.
The opening ceremony also saw the presence of BWF President Saiful Islam Bhuiyan and Tournament Committee Chairman SM Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, among other distinguished guests, who showed support for the athletes and the championship.
