Bangladesh Extends $1 Million Aid to Nepal for Flood Relief

Dhaka: The Bangladesh government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has contributed US$1 million (Tk 12.3 crore) to the Nepal Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund. This financial assistance aims to support the ongoing relief, recovery, and humanitarian efforts following the devastating floods and mudslide in Northern Nepal.

According to United News of Bangladesh, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir conveyed this gesture to the Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari. The announcement was made while he handed over a letter from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Prime Minister of Nepal, Balendra Shah, at the State Guest House Padma on Thursday. In the letter, Prime Minister Rahman expressed his deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the people and government of Nepal for the tragic loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the massive flash floods on August 26.

Ambassador Bhandari expressed his gratitude to the government of Bangladesh for its support, generous contribution, and solidarity with the government and people of Nepal during this difficult time, according to the Nepal Embassy in Dhaka. Earlier, on September 1, the state minister signed the condolence book opened at the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad also adopted a condolence motion on August 27 following the tragic incident in Nepal. The death toll from the devastating mudslide in Nepal has risen to 1,204, with 4,216 people still missing, according to Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
