Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a set of traffic and security guidelines for the colourful procession to be held in the capital on Friday, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, known as Janmashtami. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed stated that the procession will commence at 3:00pm from the Sri Sri Dhakeshwari National Temple and conclude at Bahadur Shah Park. The procession is expected to continue until around 7:00pm.
The detailed route for the procession includes several key locations: Sri Sri Dhakeshwari National Temple, Palashi Bazar, Jagannath Hall, Central Shaheed Minar, Doel Chattar, High Court, Bangabazar, Dhaka South City Corporation building, Golap Shah Mazar, Gulistan intersection, Nawabpur Road, Raysahib Bazar intersection, and Bahadur Shah Park. The DMP has requested commuters to refrain from parking vehicles along the procession route during the event.
City residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary gatherings or standing on roads that could obstruct the procession. Devotees wishing to join the procession have been instructed to assemble at the starting point, as joining midway will not be permitted. For security reasons, participants are prohibited from carrying bags, flammable materials, weapons, or other potentially hazardous items.
Additionally, the DMP has urged participants not to throw objects onto the procession route and to refrain from playing loud sound equipment. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to nearby police. Participants are also instructed to comply with directions from volunteers and law enforcement personnel and to cooperate at barricades, pickets, and archways. Commuters are advised to use alternative roads designated by police during the procession.
