Dhaka: Five robbers were arrested red-handed while preparing for a robbery in the city's Banani area, with a foreign-made pistol, handcuffs, walkie-talkie, and other equipment. A team of the Detective Branch (DB) Gulshan Division conducted a special raid based on an intelligence report at around 9:35 am today in front of Khayer Palace on Road 4, Block A, Banani, and arrested the five, said a DMP press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrestees are Masud Rana, 29, Rajib Howlader, 30, Hafizul Matbar, 24, Mohammad Shakil Hossain, 24, and Badal, 42. Police recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, a walkie-talkie, a pair of handcuffs bearing the Bangladesh Police emblem, a roll of black duct tape, a shopping bag, and a Hiace microbus from their possession.
The operation involved around 45 members of the DB. Police said they are investigating whether the suspects are members of an organized criminal gang, the source of the firearm, and their possible involvement in previous crimes. Efforts are also underway to identify and arrest other members of the gang. Legal proceedings against the five are underway with Banani Police Station.
