Measles Death Toll Nears 1,000 as Four More Children Die

Dhaka: Four children succumbed to measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Monday, escalating the nation's total of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities to a staggering 983 this year.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has categorized all four recent fatalities as suspected measles deaths. With these latest figures, the number of suspected measles deaths now stands at 884, while the confirmed measles fatalities remain at 99.

In the same 24-hour period, authorities reported 1,034 new suspected measles cases, increasing the nationwide total of suspected cases to 160,184. Additionally, 63 new cases were confirmed, raising the total number of laboratory-confirmed measles infections to 19,447.

Since March 15, 140,472 patients with suspected measles have required hospitalisation across the country. Fortunately, 135,417 of these patients have recovered, as indicated by DGHS data.
