Lalmonirhat: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today asserted that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would consistently return to power if fair elections continue to be held. He emphasized the party’s commitment to democracy and its plans for the nation’s future.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dulu made these remarks during a discussion and cultural program organized to commemorate the BNP’s 48th founding anniversary at the Lalmonirhat Zilla Parishad Auditorium Hall. During his address, Dulu reflected on the political legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, highlighting his inclusive approach to politics and his refusal to suppress dissent. Dulu noted, “Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman never tried to suppress dissent. He gave everyone a chance to do politics. Those who are speaking against us have also been given the right to do politics.”
Minister Dulu further emphasized that Ziaur Rahman extended political opportunities even to those who had fled the country. He mentioned that this ethos is continued by Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman. Dulu attributed the popularity of the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol to its dedication to democracy and development, adding that the party has always prioritized national progress.
He also shared insights into BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s active communication with party leaders to discuss the implementation of the party’s election manifesto. Dulu recalled the challenging conditions when the BNP previously took power, citing issues such as money laundering, a crumbling governance system, and corruption across various sectors. He reiterated the party’s guiding principles, stating, “Our slogan is the slogan of democracy, the slogan of the people and the slogan preferred by the people of Bangladesh – Bangladesh first, Bangladesh for everyone.”
The program was attended by key figures including District Council Administrator AKM Mominul, District BNP Joint General Secretary ABM Faruk Siddique, Municipal BNP President Afzal Hossain, District BNP Organising Secretary Saju Patwari, District Jubo Dal Convener VP Anis, and Member Secretary Hasan Ali. The event concluded with a series of patriotic songs, BNP-themed presentations, and cultural performances.
