Khulna: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) today launched a mosquito larva eradication drive across the city as part of its efforts to prevent the spread of dengue. KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inaugurated the programme as the chief guest this morning at Tutpara graveyard intersection in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Manju emphasized that the dengue outbreak has emerged as a major public health challenge in the metropolitan city, and the KCC is making efforts to tackle the situation. While spraying insecticides can assist in controlling mosquito populations, it cannot completely eradicate them, he noted, emphasizing the necessity to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.
Manju urged people to ensure that water does not remain stagnant for more than three days in and around their homes, including on rooftops and balconies. He highlighted the need for public awareness and active participation from city residents in combating dengue.
The eradication drive has commenced simultaneously across all 31 wards and will continue throughout the month. Manju directed all field-level workers involved in the programme to work diligently to ensure the campaign’s success.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed. Other notable attendees included KCC Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman, Market Officer Sheikh Shafiqul Hasan Didar, former councillor Md Gias Uddin Boni, and social workers Yusuf Harun Majnu and Md Ishaq Talukdar.
