Dhaka: Water Resources Minister Md. Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today highlighted the escalating challenges of floods, river erosion, waterlogging, salinity, and drought in Bangladesh due to climate change. He emphasized the necessity for integrated and long-term strategies to effectively manage these issues during a meeting with World Bank Bangladesh Mission Chief Jean Pesme at the Ministry of Water Resources’ conference room.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anee outlined the government’s efforts, which include excavation and re-excavation of rivers, canals, and water bodies, as well as initiatives aimed at mitigating the impacts of river erosion and floods. He urged for an enhanced partnership with the World Bank to ensure sustainable water resource management.
Jean Pesme affirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s water resource development and improving climate resilience. He stressed the importance of integrated planning, modern technology, institutional capacity building, and sustainable development.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of current projects in the water resources sector, explored future cooperation opportunities, and discussed various mutual interests.
