Dhaka: Six more children succumbed to measles-like symptoms within 24 hours until 8:00 am on Tuesday, escalating the nation’s combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related fatalities to 979 this year.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all six recent fatalities as suspected measles deaths. With these new incidents, the total number of suspected measles deaths has increased to 880, while the count of confirmed measles deaths remains unchanged at 99.
In the same 24-hour period, health authorities reported 1,159 new suspected measles cases, pushing the cumulative number of suspected cases to 159,150 nationwide. Additionally, 72 new confirmed measles cases were identified, increasing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 19,384.
Since March 15 of this year, a total of 139,519 individuals with suspected measles have been hospitalized. Among them, 134,458 patients have successfully recovered, as per DGHS data.
The ongoing measles outbreak continues to pose significant health challenges for the country, with efforts required to control the spread and mitigate the impact on the population.
