Sylhet: Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir has announced that the government is actively working to accelerate economic growth by expanding industrialisation and boosting both domestic and foreign investment. These efforts were detailed during a briefing to journalists at an event commemorating the 48th founding anniversary of BNP in Sylhet city.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Muktadir laid out plans to strengthen key sectors of industry and trade by eliminating barriers to economic development, particularly addressing challenges such as the energy crisis, power management, and logistics. He emphasized that the current focus of the government is on addressing the challenges of nation-building rather than engaging in celebratory activities.
Muktadir highlighted the historical role of BNP, noting its foundation in 1978 under the leadership of late President Ziaur Rahman. He acknowledged the leadership of former BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia during challenging times and mentioned that her son, BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is currently at the helm of the country’s leadership, working tirelessly to enhance the economy and improve living standards.
The minister outlined the government’s initiatives aimed at making the industry, trade, and other crucial economic sectors more dynamic. He also announced plans for establishing a BSCIC industrial estate in Sylhet, which is expected to boost industrial development, create employment, and enhance both domestic and foreign investment.
In addition to economic initiatives, the government is focusing on improving the law-and-order situation in alignment with public expectations. Muktadir reiterated the government’s commitment to building a strong, prosperous, and dynamic economy by continuing efforts to expand industry and trade, increase investment, and remove obstacles to economic development.
The event in Sylhet was attended by several notable figures, including Sylhet city BNP President Nasim Hossain, General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, BNP Central Assistant Organising Secretary Miftah Siddiqui, National Executive Committee member Abul Kaher Chowdhury Shamim, former city BNP General Secretary Badruzzaman Selim, and other party leaders.
