Dhaka: The Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, Value Added Tax, Dhaka of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has detected VAT evasion amounting to Tk 317.92 crore by battery manufacturing company JiuZhou Industry Ltd following an intelligence-based operation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a team from the directorate conducted a preventive operation at the premises of JiuZhou Industry Ltd on August 3, 2026, and seized various commercial documents and records from the company, as stated in a press release.
After a detailed examination and scrutiny of the seized documents, the authorities found that the company had evaded VAT amounting to Tk 317,92,51,378 on the production and sale of batteries. The directorate revealed that the company had been conducting its business by concealing actual information with the intention of evading government revenue.
The authorities further mentioned that legal and judicial proceedings against the company are underway in accordance with the VAT laws for recovery of the evaded revenue. The Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate emphasized that such strict monitoring and preventive operations would continue to prevent revenue evasion and safeguard government revenue.
