Habiganj: An office assistant-cum-computer operator and another office assistant of a school were killed after a pickup van hit their motorcycle in Nabiganj upazila of the district. The accident occurred at around 4pm today in the Nalsuja area of Debpara Union on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Masum Parvez, office assistant-cum-computer operator, and Shamim Reza, an office assistant, both of Gholdupa M A Mannan Chowdhury High School in Nabiganj.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Masum Parvez was the son of Md. Azizur Rahman of Kailong area under Atpara police station in Netrokona district, while Shamim Reza was the son of Ichmat Mia of Betapur area in Nabiganj upazila. The two were riding a motorcycle to Masum's in-laws' home in the Paniumda area of Nabiganj when they reached the Nalsuja area of Debpara Union on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. An unregistered pickup van coming from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle.
The impact of the collision threw both riders off the motorcycle, causing them serious injuries. Locals quickly rescued the injured and transported them to Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex. However, Masum Parvez succumbed to his injuries on the way. Shamim Reza, who was critically injured, was referred to Sylhet for better treatment but unfortunately died while undergoing treatment there at around 6pm.
After receiving word of the accident, police from Sherpur Highway Police Station arrived at the hospital. They later took the pickup van and motorcycle involved in the accident to Sherpur Highway Police Station. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Highway Police Station Md. Anisur Rahman confirmed the incident and stated that legal proceedings in connection with the accident are underway.
