Dhaka: Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan has announced that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is committed to establishing a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh grounded in human rights principles.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Ahmed Azam Khan made these comments during a press conference at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center. The event was organized to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances 2026. During his address, Khan emphasized the party's vision under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to eradicate issues such as disappearances, torture, and repression from Bangladesh's social fabric.
Khan reiterated the BNP's dedication to overcoming the country's dark past and forming a justice-based society. He highlighted the party's active role in combating enforced disappearances, killings, and torture over the last 18 years.
The minister also pointed out that the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances had not been observed during the tenure of the previous government, which he referred to as 'fascist.' He expressed optimism that under the current government, the observance would proceed smoothly, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the cooperation of all stakeholders.
Khan concluded by urging journalists and relevant parties to contribute to the success of the upcoming observance, underscoring the importance of collective effort in achieving the event's objectives.
