Dhaka: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat announced today that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate Cox's Bazar International Airport in October. The announcement marks a significant development in the country's aviation sector.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Millat shared this update during a meeting with members of the Aviation and Tourism Journalists' Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The minister highlighted that international airlines, alongside Biman Bangladesh Airlines, are set to operate from the newly upgraded airport, enhancing connectivity to the nation's prime tourist destination.
Millat emphasized the progress in transforming Cox's Bazar Airport into an international hub, noting the interest from several foreign airlines. He also mentioned initiatives to establish direct international flights from Cox's Bazar through collaborations with global airlines.
In addition, the minister discussed the ongoing preparations for the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), aiming for operational readiness in December. He revealed plans to formalize an agreement with a Japanese consortium next month to further the terminal's development.
Millat expressed optimism that the Third Terminal will enhance HSIA's capacity and passenger services, ensuring international standards at the country's main gateway. During the meeting, ATJFB President Tanzim Anwar and General Secretary Baten Biplob congratulated Millat on his ministerial role.
