Rajshahi: The Inter-Department Football Competition (Male-Female) 2026-27 began at Rajshahi University (RU) today. Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam inaugurated the competition at the university playground at 10am, marking the start of the much-anticipated event.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Abdul Alim and Professor Mamunur Rashid, Treasurer Professor Matiar Rahman, along with other university officials, teachers, and hall provosts were present at the inaugural ceremony. The event was chaired by Professor Md. Golam Mortuza, president of the Inter-Department Games Sub-Committee and dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences. Director of the Physical Education Department Roksana Begum delivered the welcome speech, setting a positive tone for the competition.
Following the inauguration, Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam took the opportunity to exchange greetings with players from the participating teams, fostering a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
On the opening day of the competition, the Arabic Department secured a victory against the Department of Islamic History and Culture with a score of 1-0. Meanwhile, the Psychology Department triumphed over the Department of Islamic Studies in a gripping tiebreaker.
This year, a total of 60 departments are competing in the men’s tournament, and 20 departments are participating in the women’s tournament, highlighting the event’s extensive participation and competitive spirit.
